About

Who We Are

We are a Bible-based church whose mission is to feed the sheep, equip the saints, and send out disciples. We study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book, through the Bible.

What We Believe

The Bible

The Bible is the word of God. It is inspired by Him and, therefore, inerrant and infallible. For the Christian, the Bible teaches, convicts, corrects, and trains.

God

There is one God who exists eternally in three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. Existing since the beginning, He came to the earth born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life in accordance with the will of the Father, making Him the perfect sacrifice to atone for the sins of humanity by willfully being nailed to a cross to pay the penalty for our sins – a penalty that He did not owe. His death on the cross, subsequent resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father make it possible for us to stand righteous in the eyes of God and able to enjoy a relationship with Him – if we so choose.

The Holy Spirit, existing since the beginning, was sent to us following Jesus’ resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, sent to help us realize that our inherent nature is sinful and that we need to be saved from the consequences of our sin. Upon being saved, the Holy Spirit seals the Christian and guides us into understanding of the Father’s will.

All people are sinful by nature – we violate God’s law and His will for us. This sin separates us from God and condemns us to the penalty of our sin – death. These are the consequence of our sinful nature. In spite of who we are, God loves us and has made a way for us to be delivered from the consequences of our sinful nature.

When we acknowledge our sin and recognize and believe that Jesus died to take upon Himself the consequences of our sin, we are able to ask for forgiveness from God and to have a change of heart that is accompanied by a change in our conduct. When we do this, we accept Jesus’ gift of salvation and receive the Holy Spirit to help us and guide us into a life that pleases God and that properly responds to the love that He has shown us.

We are all mortal. Our lives begin and they will end. The Bible is clear that we will all be judged for what we have done with the saving work of Jesus Christ. For those who have put their faith in Jesus, an eternity with the Lord awaits. For those who have refused to believe what God has said and what He has done, an eternity apart from the Lord and in torment awaits. God allows us to choose.

Since the early days of the home Bible study, Calvary Chapel Santa Fe Springs has expanded to more than 1000 people attending weekly services. The fellowship offers two Sunday morning services, a Sunday evening service, and a midweek service on Wednesday nights. Children’s classes (Nursery-6th grade) are available every service and Youth classes (7th grade-12th grade) for most services.

In addition, CCSFS offers numerous ministry opportunities to help individuals grow spiritually and in their individual giftings. Some of the many opportunities to grow and serve in our church include]: Children’s Ministry, Men’s and Women’s Bible studies, Worship Ministry, Married Couples Fellowship, New Believers Study, and discipleship classes.

CCSFS desires to raise up strong believers in Christ who are equipped to serve the Lord in their homes, schools, work places, and in the church. As we continue to grow, our ultimate goal is to share the good news of Jesus Christ through by the study of His word, worshiping together, having fellowship with one another, and going out into the world around us.

AdminISTRATIVE Pastor

John Vasquez

After retiring from Honeywell where he worked for over 30 years, Pastor John joined the pastoral staff at CCSFS as the Administrative Pastor. In this position, he oversees the business aspects of the church, leads a weekly prayer meeting, a men’s discipleship group in the School of Ministry, and oversees the Ushers/Greeters ministry.

John came to Christ around the age of 12 at a small church in Huntington Park, CA.  He fell away from the Lord until 2006 when, after the death of his mother, he rededicated his life to the Lord at the Harvest Crusade.

After deciding CCSFS would be his home church, he got involved in ministry by first serving as an Usher/Greeter.  For the last eight years, he has served as an assistant in the Men’s Ministry and he and his wife, Maria, have been an integral part of the Prayer Ministry.

He has completed a rigorous course of ministry studies through CCSFS, including SLAM, the School of Ministry, and Church Planting.

John and Maria have been married since 1981 and have two daughters, Amber and Vanessa. Their son-in-law, Luis, currently serves in the Army. They love to spend time with their four grandkids when they get a chance to visit.

In his spare time, he enjoys relaxing with Maria, running, and reading.

ASSISTANT Pastor

Dave Mendes

Pastor Dave joined the staff of CCSFS in August of 2021. The Lord has given Pastor Dave a heart for helping to develop and disciple Christian men who can lead and serve their families. In addition to his other pastoral duties, he teaches a weekly men’s Bible study and, with Pastor Ray, oversees our Men’s Discipleship programs. Pastor Dave also oversees the planning and implementation of various events geared toward serving the families of CCSFS.

The story of Pastor Dave’s walk with the Lord began in late 1999 when his wife, Jennifer, felt called to return to her Savior and began attending CCSFS rededicating her life to Jesus soon thereafter. Unbeknownst to Dave, Jennifer began praying for his salvation and requested that other people join her in this endeavor. In March 2000, he finally gave in to her request that he accompany her and their young children to church. Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit and the fervent prayers of Jennifer and the faithful members of CCSFS, Pastor Dave gave his life to Jesus on April 4, 2000.

In the ensuing years, he has had the privilege of being discipled at CCSFS and has served in various ministries including New Believers, Ushers and Greeters, Children’s Ministry, and Men’s Ministry.

Dave and Jennifer have been married for 25 years and have five children: Albert, Raymond, Cecilia, Nathanael, and Caleb. In addition to their children, they also have a two daughter-in-laws, Raquel and Monica, and son-in-law Steve.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with Jennifer. He also looks forward to making eyes roll due to his wonderful gift of coming up with spontaneous puns.

ASSISTANT Pastor

Patrick Long

Pastor Patrick came on staff February 1st of this year. He oversees the Stand Fast Ministry and serves as the Chaplain for the Trail Life Troop(3368). He was brought on to continue in those areas of ministry as well as to bring more of a focus to ministering specifically to our young families and to oversee church security.

He spent some time serving in the Marine Corps and then got involved with drugs that lead to a period of addiction. In that time Patrick married his wife Joanna and was discharged from the Marine Corps because of his addiction. After their first daughter was born the Lord began to get his attention and he and his wife began to attend the occasional church service at CCSFS. One Sunday morning before the service ended Pastor Ray invited the congregation to go to the LA Pastor's and Leader's Conference held at Calvary Chapel Downey and it was the simple phrase of "even if you are just the Spiritual Leader of your home" and it was then that he knew he needed to attend the conference. January of 2014 he and his wife gave their lives to the Lord at that conference.

CCSFS became their second home and he began to serve in the Usher's Ministry and get plugged in. For the last ten years he has served in that ministry in various roles along with the Stand Fast Ministry. He has completed Discipleship 101, SLAM, and School of Ministry desiring to grow in the Lord and go deeper in his walk.

Patrick and Joanna have been married since April 2010 and have two daughters and a son (Scarlette age 11, Gabriel age 6, and Everlyn age 2).

In his spare time he helps coach his son's Little League baseball team, plays disc golf with his buddies and enjoys hanging out with his wife and kids.

Youth Pastor

Rick Vasquez

Pastor Rick serves as the Youth Pastor at CCSFS and has the heart to see young people know of God’s love and care for them. He also seeks to train them to develop healthy habits – engaging them in the Word, worship, prayer, and fellowship with one another – that is conducive to a lifelong relationship with the Lord.

In June of 2005, Rick married his wife, Minh. Three years later he completed a law degree at Southwestern University and began working in the legal field.

In 2013, during a mid-week service here at CCSFS, he gave his life to the Lord. After accepting Christ, he sought out opportunities for spiritual growth. As a result, he completed several men’s discipleship programs, including the School of Ministry.

Together he and Minh have served in the youth ministry for the past three years as teachers, mentors, and activity directors. In July of 2018, Rick was called to ministry as the full-time youth pastor.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with Minh and their family. He also enjoys learning martial arts.
