Mike and Rocio Booth moved to Nicaragua on April 1, 2017, and they live there with their two children, Nate and Eliana. They were sent out in 2017 by Calvary Chapel Phelan, Calvary Chapel Living Hope, and Calvary Chapel Santa Fe Springs (where Mike had served on staff as youth pastor). Nine years later they are still in Nicaragua.

Mike has been senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Managua since November 2019. The church sits in Barrio Santa Ana, a poor neighborhood on the south side of the city. It had been broken and nearly empty for years, and God has been rebuilding it — verse by verse, one family at a time. It is a real church now, with real people in it who were not there before. Three were baptized this past month. Rocio leads the women's ministry and the children's ministry, and a Nicaraguan pastor, Josué, now serves as executive pastor alongside Mike.

Half a block from the church is their Christian elementary school with forty-eight children in it, preschool through fifth grade. For some of them this is the furthest anyone in their family has gone in school.

In early 2026 the church started a Bible college. It is finishing its first year with classes of twenty-five to thirty-five students, taught by pastors from Calvary Chapel churches in the United States and Central America. The vision is to train and disciple these local believers so that they too are equipped for the mission of making more disciples.

None of these three stand on their own. The school brings families to the church, the church sends students to the Bible college, and the Bible college is what raises up new leaders to continue discipling the church and beyond.

That is why Mike founded Lazarus Mission, Inc. in 2025 — a Texas-incorporated 501(c)(3) born out of years of service and a calling to unite churches and individuals behind the work of the gospel. Its purpose is to strengthen the Body of Christ by partnering with the local church, so that believers are equipped, churches are established, and the name of Jesus is made known. Nicaragua is where that began. The heart behind it reaches to every corner in need.
